Lending and money
Why this is bookkeeping software and not a loan app.
Last updated 4 October 2026 · Version 1.7
Who uses this app
Staff of a microfinance business: the owner, their field officers and their cashiers. Borrowers do not install it, are never asked to install it, and have no account in it.
That single fact is the difference between this and a consumer loan app, and it is worth stating early because the two get confused.
We do not lend, and we do not touch the money
- We offer no credit and arrange no credit.
- We set no interest rate, no fee and no penalty. Every figure is one the business entered.
- No cash, mobile money or bank transfer passes through this app. It records that money moved; it does not move it.
- We take no commission and no share of any repayment.
- We are not a party to any loan agreement recorded in the app.
What the app does with a loan
It stores the amount, the interest, the office charge, the late-payment penalty and the schedule the business agreed with the customer. It works out what is due, what is late and what is left, and it prints a receipt. All of it in Ugandan Shillings, all of it arithmetic on numbers a person typed in.
The business chooses how its interest works, and the app does what it is told. A rate can be charged once for the whole loan, or every payment period — ten per cent a month for four months is forty per cent, and the app shows that total before the loan is given. Repayments can be equal amounts that include both interest and part of the money borrowed, or interest only, where the whole amount borrowed comes back with the final payment. Whichever it is, the receipt the customer is handed says so and names the last payment.
What we ask of businesses using it
These are conditions of the licence, set out in the Terms of Service, and they exist because the person on the other side of the ledger is not the one who chose this software:
- Tell every borrower the full cost before they sign, the principal, the interest, the office charge and what happens if they pay late.
- Hold whatever licence Ugandan law requires for the lending you do.
- Collect debts without threats, shaming, or contacting people who never agreed to be contacted.
- Explain to a customer why you are recording their details, and record only what you need.
- Give a guarantor or next of kin the same courtesy. They are somebody's neighbour, not collateral to be leaned on.
The app cannot be used against a borrower's phone
It reads no contacts, no call log, no messages, no photo library belonging to a borrower. It is not on their phone at all. Reminders are a call, an SMS or a WhatsApp message that a member of staff has to open and send by hand, to the number the customer gave. Nothing is sent automatically, at any hour, to anyone.
If you are a borrower with a complaint
Take it to the business that lent to you first. If that goes nowhere, the Uganda Microfinance Regulatory Authority supervises Tier 4 lenders and money lenders, and complaints about how your personal data was handled go to the Personal Data Protection Office.
You can also write to us at support@tizaksoftware.com. We hold no record of your loan and cannot change it, but we can stop licensing software to a business that is using it to mistreat people.
